Medicare Advantage Plans
MA or MAPD – A favorite for the low cost, and sometimes zero premium options. Some plans include a prescription drug plan and some plans have extra benefits such as a dental, vision, and hearing benefits package depending on the plan. Medicare Advantage Plans are insurance plans provided by a private insurance company that replaces original Medicare.
Medicare Supplement Insurance
Med Supp – Helps with some of the costs that Medicare alone does not cover. Supplements the basic Medicare Parts A & B. Generally a higher premium cost than the Medicare Advantage Plans. Medicare Supplement Plans are insurance plans provided by a private insurance company that supplements original Medicare. These plans do not include a prescription drug plan which needs to be added separately.
Long Term Care
LTC – helps you plan ahead for a future where you may need more care than you or your family can provide. Long Term Care is not restricted to age, but may also come as a result of an accident or illness. LTC is insurance provided by a private insurance company.
Social Security
For many people Social Security and Medicare are activated at the same time when a person reaches age 65; however, there are instances where these two programs do not coincide depending on a person’s circumstances. These are two different government entities, but people often confuse these programs as being the same possibly because people often elect to have their Medicare Part B premium deducted from their Social Security payments.
